Reasons to Celebrate

Chad turned 12! It has been a week filled with milestones and heart warming events. He opened his presents and couldn't believe we had bought him anything (hello...that's what you do on birthdays!). He kept saying, "Awww, mom, you shouldn't have." He was so very grateful. I love this kid! He bore a sweet testimony on Sunday. And when we were delivering his Bday invites, he said, "Wow, mom. I can't believe how much people care about me." He was so touched that everyone was so excited to come!
At Laser Quest, Chad got 3rd place out of 34 people!!! The only 2 people that beat him were the 2 marksmen dads that were there. Chad has got some mad skills! He creamed all of his friends.
When Chad made his wish before he blew out the candles, he made a speech instead that was SO touching. It was about how much he appreciated all of his friends and wanted to be friends with them forever. What a sentimental guy he's been lately!
At his court of honor where Chad got his First Class ranking, we were both laughing SO hard because he was having trouble pinning on the mother's pin. I had laughing tears because I felt like we were at the prom and it was like he was having trouble pinning a corsage on his date!
Ava was up to the usual.
8 packets in one cup = sweet sludge
I got to watch Russ be sexy on the basketball court. He's still got mad skills even if he isn't dunking like he did in his 20's.
And I am getting my annual haircut in 3 days!

On a different note, we found out this weekend that we will most likely be laid off in the near future. Merck is buying Schering-Plough (Russ' company). When it is finalized in a few months, Merck will wipe out the Schering employees. We're buttoning down the hatches. We are prepared, but we never expected to be laid off during the Great Recession so only time will tell if our preparations are adequate. I have perfect faith in Russ' interviewing abilities being that he has gotten every single job/promotion he has applied for. It will be different this time, but he is my man and will get us through this with the courage I've always admired in him! So far we are all very upbeat but pensive.

Despite that lame news, we still have so many reasons to celebrate. And that will be our journey over the next year: Finding the joy when chaos surrounds. We're pretty good at that around here!

Ugh. YUCK! I am sooooooooo hating this recession! It is crazy. I cannot believe the things that are happening to people. It is nuts. I will be praying for you and Russ. Hope all goes well, and I would be LYING if I said he finds a job in Spokane.. I hope he finds one... HERE! (Although I am CERTAIN your plan is to stay by family, but I can be selfish.)Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Fun.

It was fun to talk to you this morning!!!

Chad is getting so tall! He'll be outgrowing you before long. He's always been the nicest kid. I'm so impressed by his love, humility and genuineness.

Sorry about the job thing (again) since we talked about it this morning. Recession sucks!!!

Wow. So much going on in your life! As usual, you entirely impress me with your attitude and faith. You've always been my #1 example.

As long as we're putting in votes here... SLC would love you, and it's near family! (hint hint...)

Leah,

How did I get so lucky to have a sister like you. Your family is lucky and blessed to have you for a wife and mother. Your positive attitude is infectious and blesses everyone around you.

My heart goes out to you and Russ through this yucky job time, but I have faith that it is through our trials that we grow stronger and more closely knit as one. May this be one of the blessings your family receives from our loving Heavenly Father. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for sharing what an amazing son you have. Chad is such a special boy!

I love you, sis!
