Russ turned 39 this week. Early that morning, we laid in bed pretending to be asleep and giggled as we heard the ding-a-ling-a-ling of ice bouncing around wine glasses being brought into our room by 3 little birthday elves all carefully carrying one very full tray together. Kids always make a birthday so special. It makes my job very easy! I didn't have anything to do with their surprise.
And what's a birthday without some party games?! One game is an original creation. We're calling it Gas Who or Who Gassed It? I don't know. But it's a potty humor twist on another game we play.

The person that is "it" sits in the corner with their back to the crowd.
The crowd then silently picks someone to make a gas noise,

and "it" has to guess who gassed it. If they guess right, "it" gets to be "it" again. If "it" is wrong, the
gasser that fooled them gets to be "it". It works better than the version of the game where you say a word in a weird voice. Much harder to decipher and much easier to trick people!!!

I kept accusing the birthday boy of wimping out because he was making such soft delicate noises that it was like he was bunting the ball in a baseball game when he could take a home run swing! But his strategy fooled people every time.

We finished the night with Russ' favorite party game, Bean Bag Archery (from the Cub Scout Book).

He rules at this game of course, but we always laugh and laugh and Ava even won a round!!!

I made cinnamon rolls instead of a birthday cake, but they were so inedible that we just stuck a candle in an apple and called it good. The rolls never rose in the oven using the speed method and ended up more like rock hard hockey pucks!! Funny enough, they were all gone the next day anyway. I guess desperate kids like cinnamon roll bricks!

You make me smile! We play a similar game but call it Snort and it's done by making a--you guessed it--snorting sound.
Happy birthday, Russ! Wow! You're lucky. You got a birthday apple. Just what you always wanted, I'm sure.
Oh Leah, that Gas Who game is hilarious! I'm sure the kids would love to add that one to our list of family games. We'll have to try it! Thanks for the idea!
There's something wrong with Russ almost being 40....are we really all aging? Aren't we still in our late teens/early 20's? Sure feels like it!
Can I live at your house? You guys have so much fun. Seriously. . I wish I was your kid! ;)
Oh we are totally doing Gas Who at our next family night.... great family game!
Happy Birthday Russ! I know we don't know each other but I feel like I know you after reading this blog for the last while, and besides, Leah of course knew how to spot a great guy!
