Cheetos for the Soul

Yes, I'm having Cheetos for breakfast. I think I need comfort food because my baby is away at boy scout camp for 7 days! First time ever away from home for this long. My friend with 7 kids called me yesterday because she felt lonely after her two boys left for camp even though she had 5 still left at home! We are smitten by our boys. I couldn't sleep last night I miss him so much.

So I went to camp yesterday to visit for 2 hours. I taught some boys how to fish and had to laugh because all of the boys refused to put worms on their hooks! So I was the official worm hooker.

I'm so glad I visited. Literally, the very first thing I saw was a kid who is nothing but trouble bullying Chad, pushing him, taunting him, and punching him in the arm. Geesh! What is going on when I'm not around?

Chad was also wearing pants that were WAY too big for him with no belt and he had to literally hold them up with his hands at ALL times or they'd fall to his knees! How could his scout leaders not make him change or use a rope for a belt??? Poor Chad was handicapped all day. So I fixed that situation. And he was in a tent off by himself, completely vulnerable to the pranks the older boys are pulling at nights, so I made sure he had a sleeping buddy. See? No one cares for their boys like a mom does.

I think the mother bear in all of us should be celebrated! The scout leaders were acting like it was so not cool for a mom to visit even though it is all over the literature that family members are welcome/encouraged to visit anytime. They have never parented a child with Asperger's so they can just take their opinions and shove them up their bums!

I also have renewed gratitude that I am married to a REAL man who has always treated me with respect, love, and kindness. He has never once criticized me in the 15 years knowing him. He has only praised, adored, and supported me. And after experiencing the teasing/sarcastic culture of boys at scout camp, I am more grateful for him than ever.

WHO'S HIS MAMA?! You pretty much rock in my book, but more importantly in Chad's book!

I have had 2 scouts and will have 2 more... it's definitely a whole new world, especially coming from a family of all girls! *sigh*

I love you Leah, and I am so glad you are Chad's mom. You are such a good momma to all your kids, and Heavenly Father knew Chad needed a mama bear like you! I have tears in my eyes thinking about how very much I love that sweet boy! I cannot wait to see you guys. I am very much looking forward to the jumping place activity because I will get to watch you bust out some sweet moves!

Good for you Leah! Clearly you were inspired to go up there. I am seriously mad about how you found Chad being treated. What is up with the leaders! My aunt just had a disturbing experience with her son and his scout leaders at a recent activity, she won't even let him go to scout camp this year! Way to be there for your boy!
